1982m – Turf

1

Killybegs Warrior

Gained the third success of his busy career when a late surge saw him land a surprise success in a Newmarket handicap over this trip.

2

Finn’s Charm

A convincing Musselburgh handicap winner on his 2023 debut and also was second – though well beaten – in a G2 at Cologne. A front-running type who has had a break since flopping at Royal Ascot.

3

Obelix

The first-time cheekpieces did not seem to help when he ran modestly on his 2023 return, doing much better when narrowly failing to land a surprise in a Newmarket handicap. Raised 3lb since.

4

Royal Rhyme

The impressive winner of a soft-ground Newmarket handicap over this trip in May. Raised 10lb for that, he travelled well in a stronger handicap at Newbury before fading. Not run since.

5

Perfuse

A convincing winner of two of his four starts, on heavy and fast ground respectively. Ran quite well in a hot Royal Ascot handicap, just fading late on. More improvement anticipated.

6

Silver Sword

This grey has won two of his three starts this season with a career best coming at Pontefract last time when his jockey was able to ease him down before the end. He handles this longer trip.

7

Theoryofeverything

Lightly raced, his achievements so far including a runaway first-time-out victory on soft ground and a third – though well beaten – in a Newbury G3. Probably found the ground too fast last time out.

8

Have Secret

His two career wins came last season, one of them in a handicap over this trip. Has twice finished a good fourth in two red-hot handicaps this season. Versatile groundwise.

9

Coverdale

His handicap mark has now risen 17lb this season after  victories in all four starts – all at this trip – and starting favourite on the last three occasions. Seems to relish a fight.

10

Promoter

Comes back from a break since showing some promise in an Epsom handicap. Slowly away and outpaced at a crucial stage but he did make some solid late headway.

11

Coco Jack

Already having the 20th start of his career, his four wins coming over much shorter trips than this last season. Looks vulnerable to less exposed types.

12

Alsakib

Rising in trip and having his first start in handicap company, after victories in novices’ events at Chester and Windsor.

13

Perfect Play

Narrowly beaten in handicaps over this trip on his last two starts. Races prominently as he did when only beaten by a highly progressive handicapper last time.

14

Baltic Voyage

May have benefitted from the softer ground and the drop to this trip when proving easily too strong for seven rivals at Ripon. That was easily the best run of his seven-race career.

15

Garden Route

Gelded and having had wind surgery earlier this year, he kicked off 2023 with a front-running success at Windsor. Up in distance and on slower ground, but likely to be fancied on this handicap debut.

16

Goldsborough

Whilst not looking comfortable for some of the trip, he still easily won a 1600m heavy-ground maiden here on his second career start. Not so good on a quicker surface last time.

17

Crack Shot

A fast ground maiden winner in June. Subsequently did well under a penalty to finish second at Hamilton. Up in distance and into handicap company.

18

Entrancement

Clearly happy on this track, recording a runaway victory over this trip in a heavy-ground handicap here. Couldn’t quite handle an 11lb rise in the rating at Salisbury when reappearing 70 days later.
