1600m – Turf

1 Dream Of Love Unlucky not to win at Meydan in January, and a decent third in a G2 at Dusseldorf this month, though the fast ground did not look in her favour then.
2 Jackie Oh Plenty of promise in her first two starts before being tried in G1 company at The Curragh, running a highly respectable fifth. Now competes in this hot handicap.
3 Magical Sunset Was a comfortable 1400m Listed Newbury winner on heavy ground last year. Hasn’t quite matched that in three starts this season. Rises in trip which looks positive.
4 Polly Pott Gained four consecutive victories last season but hasn’t shown the same flair so far this year. Has switched to an in-form stable since her last start.
5 Breege Third in a 1200m Ascot G3 last year but has not been able to handle G1 company on her last two starts. Commences her handicap career on a challenging mark.
6 Karsavina A long odds outsider when failing to make an impact in a G1 Newmarket Classic last time, though her G3 fourth on her previous start was encouraging.
7 Foniska Drops back from 2000m having faded late on in Listed and G3 company this season. Likely to try to grab a prominent position early.
8 Zoinnocent Runner-up at Naas on her seasonal debut, and though only sixth in a 1600m Listed event at Chantilly last month, she was only 3/4l behind the winner.
9 Coppice Her two wins have both come on all-weather tracks and impressive at Newcastle last month. Found the ground much too slow at Newmarket previously. One to consider.
10 Girl Racer Stumbled badly leaving the gates and in the circumstances ran quite well to get so close when fourth at Haydock last month, despite failing to justify favouritism.
11 Embrace An encouraging fourth in a Newbury G3 before failing to make a big impact in a G1 Classic at Newmarket. Handicapping beckons now. Slow ground may suit best.
12 Cell Sa Beela Won a novices’ event last season before twice failing to shine in G2 company. This looks hard on her seasonal return.
13 Bridestones Won her only start last year. Thought good enough to tackle strong company in 2023 only making a modest impact in a G3 and a G1, though slow ground may have been against her.
14 Clounmacon Only win has come on the all-weather at Dundalk, but her late surge in a handicap at The Curragh last month only just failed, a career-best effort.
15 Ma Belle Artiste Responded willingly to her rider’s urgings to win over this trip at Killarney on her only 2023 start. Stamina looks her strongpoint.
16 Mottisfont Only win so far came in maiden company on her debut. Made some late headway over this course and distance last time and is 2lb easier in the handicap now.
17 Candle Of Hope Won the first two starts of her career but has found things more difficult in six starts since. Led until fading late at Lingfield last time.
18 Lady Alara Didn’t make much of an impact in a Newbury G3 on her 2023 return. Up in trip for this first handicap and that could be an advantage according to her pedigree.
19 Choisya Consistent and gradually progressing, gaining her first turf success on her latest start when landing a fast-ground Haydock handicap despite hanging badly left late on.
20 Copy Artist Has improved with every start, and second over this course and distance on her latest start when trying to lead throughout. First handicap.
21 Chelsea Green Made a good start to 2023 when accelerating from the back to win a Newmarket handicap over this trip last month. This race has been on the agenda since then.
22 Eximious Came from the back to finish a close second in a 1400m Newbury handicap on this month’s 2023 return. Fast ground preferred.
23 Unless Running in maiden company in Ireland all season, latterly when winning one quite easily over this trip at Naas. Will need to improve further if she is to win this handicap.
24 Sparks Fly On a winning roll, having won handicaps – all at this trip – on her last four starts, the latest two by big margins. A slow surface looks required.
25 Balalaika A close third in two handicaps this season suggest that she has improved since last year. However this is a much stronger event.
26 Marksman Queen All runs so far – two wins and a second – have been on all-weather tracks but no reason on pedigree why she should not thrive on turf. This trip looks right.
27 Novus A sustained charge from the back saw her post a career-best performance when winning a 1400m Goodwood handicap last month. This longer trip is unlikely to be an issue.
28 Youngest A winner on her career debut but then looked outclassed in a G3. Weakened after racing too freely over this course and distance on her 2023 return.
29 Rich A maiden winner over 1200m but mostly struggling to make a big impact over longer trips subsequently.
30 Orchid Bloom Looked to enjoy the slow ground when winning at Newmarket on her debut. Moves into handicap company after two good seconds this year.
  Reserves
31 Bellaphina Irish-trained, she has won both starts this season notably when showing a sharp change of gear to win at the Curragh on last month’s handicap debut.
32 Liberalist Always prominent when winning a soft-ground 1400m maiden in April, but never looked like winning a Newbury G3 last time.
33 Zouzanna Has improved race by race in novice company.  She looks set for a rewarding handicap career after an easy front-running success over this trip at Haydock.
