1600m – Turf
1 | Roman Mist | Gained the sixth win of her career with a front-running performance on slow ground in a Goodwood Listed event over this trip in May. Much less good last time. |
2 | Indian Wish | Formerly French-trained and looking as though her first Irish run was needed before winning a 1891m Listed event at Gowran Park. Has won over this shorter trip also. |
3 | Crystal Caprice | Her only previous run at Ascot – though on the straight course – resulted in a victory. Drops back in trip compared to her two starts this season. That could be helpful. |
4 | Mukaddamah | Will need to upgrade massively on a very modest start to 2023. More positively she did run a good second over this course and distance and on fast ground last year. |
5 | Villanova Queen | Twice a winner and has also been tried in strong company. Quite well beaten in a G3 and a Listed event on her last two starts. |
6 | Yerwanthere | A lightly-raced filly who has won two of her three starts. Only seventh in a Listed event at Naas last month, but she had no luck at all that day and also should be sharper for the run. |
7 | Divine Light | Trained in France last year when she had winning form over further than this. This looks difficult off her current handicap mark. |
8 | Al Agaila | Ran poorly on her latest start and also yet to win on turf, though no reason from her high-class pedigree why she shouldn’t act on it. Will surely get the strong pace she’s suited to. |
9 | Tarrabb | A consistent filly who has won over this trip and has a good record at Ascot. Second when favourite on her latest start but that still counts as a positive effort. |
10 | Love Interest | Won on her career debut, but has largely struggled since including when trying Stakes company. Hard to recommend. |
11 | Belhaven | Running well in soft-ground handicaps lately – including when only just beaten here last month. Handles quicker ground also, though now on a career high handicap rating. |
12 | Tamarama | Despite a wide draw she was able to grab an early lead which she never surrendered in a Kempton handicap over this trip this month. |
13 | Don’t Tell Claire | A specialist at this trip, and also happy on fast ground. A good third here last month on slow ground. Probably best when challenging late. |
14 | Farhh To Shy | Not disgraced in this last year. Just about stays this trip as she showed when narrowly winning a handicap on the straight course here last month. |
15 | Zenga | Will need to be very fit as she faces lots of battle-hardened rivals on this first start of the year. She also drops down in trip from her only career win so far. |
16 | Lady Eros | Hit top gear on her latest start when winning a Yarmouth handicap over this trip. Now 6lb higher in the handicap, but she could easily progress further. |
17 | Adelaise | Yet to win on turf but ran really well when returning from an absence, a close third in a handicap over this trip at The Curragh after having to wait to deliver her challenge. |
18 | Discretion | Controlling a Yarmouth handicap from the front on her latest start and winning quite impressively on the quick surface. A 4lb hike for that seems reasonable. |
19 | Golden Spice | Well beaten on recent starts and, despite an easing handicap rating, a win here would come as a major surprise. |
20 | Sly Madam | Likely to be a long odds outsider. On the plus side she has won six times on turf, is effective at this trip and is versatile groundwise. |

21 | One Morning | Slow from the gates but doing some encouraging late work when fourth in a handicap here on her return from a break. Should be sharper for that. |
22 | Phantasy Mac | Her last seven starts have been on all-weather surfaces, and this is also her first run at Ascot. Not an obvious winner. |
23 | Mary Salome | A six-times winner who is having her first run outside Ireland on this 49th career start. A Roscommon winner last time. |
