G2 – 1900m – Dirt

1

Es-Unico

Won at up to G2 level in Uruguay. Showed encouragement in last two runs including late headway when fourth in the G3 Saudi Derby. But he will need to thrive for the rise from 1600m to 1900m.

2

Ah Jeez

Twice a turf sprint winner in the US, but bred to handle dirt and made a winning Meydan debut over 1400m on it last month. Some hope from pedigree that the rise in trip will not be an issue.

3

Cairo

Up in trip but it might suit very well. Closed down last year with a Leopardstown G3 win, and impressive at Dundalk on his 2023 return. Chances for a stable with a good record in this.

4

Continuar

Won two of his three starts in Japan last year. Though he never looked like winning, he was only beaten 2.8l in last month’s Saudi Derby.

5

Derma Sotogake

Improved to win his last three starts as a two-year-old in Japan, looking to have plenty of stamina. Doing his best work at the end when a close third in last month’s Saudi Derby.

6

Dura Erede

Won a maiden on the dirt in Japan last year, and closed down the year with a gutsy win – at huge odds – in a 2000m G1 on the turf at Nakayama. Likely to sit up with the speed.

7

Go Soldier Go

Has the advantage of course and distance winning experience. Being fitted with a visor seems to have encouraged his improvement, winning his last two starts here – latterly in Listed grade.

8

Goraiko

Twice an 1800m dirt winner in Japan last year. Should be sharper for his 5.3l fifth in a Listed event when returning to action, in Tokyo last month. Has the widest gate to contend with.

9

Lahresh

After leading 600m out he was a decisive winner over this course and distance on a muddy surface in January. But then proved disappointing – after a slow start – back here this month.

10

Mr Raj

Facts and figures suggest gradual improvement and, after briefly leading, was only just caught by his rival here Go Soldier Go when tackling this distance for the first time early this month.

11

Perriere

Dominated in the straight to win a 1600m Listed event on the dirt at Tokyo last month, his third win from four starts.

12

Tall Boy

Didn’t manage a win in four US starts but looked a decent colt when this rider steered him to victory in a 1600m G3 here last month. Possibilities despite the tougher opposition here.

13

Worcester

Hasn’t won from three starts in the US, but his quite close third – as he stepped up in class and distance – in a 1700m G3 at Santa Anita last month was encouraging.
