G2 – 1600m – Dirt

1

Al Nefud

Has improved since moving to Meydan, winning twice before a fine second to smart US horse Hot Rod Charlie – and well clear of the third – in a G2 here. Has a leading chance.

2

Algiers

Mostly racing over further – and on a slow turf surface – when trained in France. But clearly handles dirt and this trip as he showed when beating 11 rivals in a G3 at Jebel Ali.

3

Bankit

Consistent, and a six-times winner in the US, the latest being over this trip at Belmont last year. Could never get competitive on a recent start, but that came after an absence.

4

Bathrat Leon

Has won a G2 over this trip in Japan but, like his other wins, it came on a turf surface. Usually up with the early speed, but has faded out on recent starts. An unlikely winner.

5

Desert Wisdom

Enjoyed a perfect passage along the rail – surging late – when landing an unexpected victory in a G3 over this course and distance this month. Chance if repeating that.

6

Dubai Icon

Exploited gate 1 on a track favouring inside speed with an easy victory here in January. But, unable to dominate in two subsequent starts, he was well beaten each time.

7

Full Flat

Has some winning form in Japan over this trip but has clearly had his problems, this being his first start since mid 2020. Looks vulnerable to battle-hardened rivals.

8

Golden Goal

From a stable that have enjoyed success in this, and this guy finished second in it last year, though 6l behind the winner who he then beat here in January. Not so good last time.

9

Great Scot

Plenty of winning form over this trip on the King Abdulaziz dirt surface and third in the world’s richest race (1800m) there last year. Only caught late on in a local G1 there last time.

10

Mubakker

In good shape, winning over 1400m here in January and showing that he just about stays this trip when second in a G3 here this month – a fine effort from a wide gate.

11

Pogo

Consistent and willing, he twice came quite close to winning G2’s in the UK last year. Trying dirt for the first time in his career, not an obvious plus according to his breeding.

12

Secret Ambition

Supporters will hope that he can repeat his achievement in this last year, leading early and romping 6l clear at the end. Led most of the way in the world’s richest race last time fading late on in that King Abdulaziz event.

13

Snapper Sinclair

Has winning form over this trip on both dirt and turf in the US. Hasn’t produced much of a finishing kick on recent starts but much will depend on how he adapts to Meydan.

14

Soliste Thunder

Smart in Japan over this trip, winning a G3 quite convincingly last November. On his latest start – last month – he was a strong finisher when fourth in a Tokyo G1.

15

Storm Damage

Can race too freely but in great form here lately, leading or racing prominently to win twice over 1400m. He is a past winner over this trip and looks very competitive.

16

Tuz

Plenty of solid course and distance form here though not in this race last year when he never featured. A wide trip hasn’t helped on his last two starts, still good placed G3 efforts.
