1400m – Turf

Al Suhail |
Has had this new race on his agenda for some time and ratings suggest he has a good chance. Closed down last year with a stylish G2 Newmarket win, a career best effort. |
2 |
Could Be King |
A winner in Norway before returning to Meydan where he ran respectable races in 2021 without threatening victory. Has not looked like winning either Meydan start in 2022. |
3 |
D’Bai |
A veteran and twice winning Meydan G2’s. Favourite on his return here last month, but suffered from a wide trip. Trip ideal. Chance but doesn’t look the stable’s number one. |
4 |
Haqeeqy |
The winner of five of his ten career starts, including on first start for this stable when surging clear of his nearest rival in a 1400m Listed event at Abu Dhabi last month. |
5 |
Moqtarreb |
His two career wins have come over further and he meets some specialist 1400m horses here. His challenge faded out late in a handicap here last time. |
6 |
Mutafawwig |
Training issues have curtailed his career. Though outpaced by a smart stablemate in the closing stages, his second in a Listed event here last month was encouraging. |
7 |
Path Of Thunder |
Another strong contender for this stable. Mostly competes over 1600m now but has won at 1400m. Won here in January but then raced too freely in a G2 and faded into fourth. |
8 |
Prince Eiji |
Frustrating, beaten on all 14 starts since a debut win. But only caught late on his Meydan and dirt debut, then prominent until tiring in a 1600m G3. Back on turf now. |
9 |
Raaeb |
When competing in the UK he looked marginally better on all-weather surfaces. A close fourth in a 1200m turf handicap here last month but will probably struggle here. |
10 |
Sanary |
Has started at long odds for both Meydan starts this year, doing best when not beaten far in seventh in a G2 over this course and distance in January. |
11 |
Spirit Of Light |
Outclassed rivals in a weak maiden here early last year. His sixth – as a long odds outsider – in a G2 over this course and distance in January gives him a small chance. |
12 |
Storm Damage |
Frankie Dettori takes over on this winner of four of six starts. And his smart front-running victory in a fast-run 1400m Listed race here last time makes him look a serious player. |

UAE Prince |
Withdrawn |
14 |
Zainhom |
Seems best at this trip, and finished well – albeit against tiring rivals – when a close third in a G2 here in January. But, slow from the gates, never got involved here last month. |
15 |
Ascot Brass |
Ratings suggest that he has a hard task even with expert Meydan rider Tadhg O’Shea taking over and the fact that he came close to landing a G2 shock win here in January. |
16 |
Dubai Love |
She has run some good races in Dubai including when a close third in a G2 here in February. However she seems best over longer, and was well beaten last time. |
17 |
Ajwad |
Did have a winning spree at Meydan back in 2019 but they were minor events and more recent UAE efforts don’t suggest he has a serious chance here. |

Thunder Of Niagara |
Has twice gone close to winning Meydan handicaps in 2022, ridden prominently each time. This will, however, surely prove too difficult. |
19 |
Hotline Bling |
Two out of three runs at Meydan this year have been respectable, but no evidence that he is capable of winning a race like this. |
