G1 – 2000m – Dirt
1 |
Appreciated |
This US challenger has adapted well to Meydan, judging by his Listed victory here last month, especially after a difficult start and being further back than his rider wanted. More required for this G1. |
2 |
Avant Garde |
Not proven over this far. Probable excuses for a poor return to action here in January. Third in a 1600m G2 here last March, slowly away but finishing quite strongly. |
3 |
Dubai Icon |
Ran a dismal race here last month but reunited with the rider who partnered him to a runaway 8.5L victory over course and distance in January. Might try and grab an early lead. |
4 |
Everfast |
Formerly US trained, he won nicely on his Meydan debut and a wide passage didn’t help when third in a 1900m G2 here in February. His in-form trainer speaks highly of him. |
5 |
For The Top |
Didn’t make much impact at Meydan early last year but did finish strongly to win a Listed event here in December. Hung under pressure when fourth in a G2 last month. |
6 |
Go On |
Had some decent form in the US but not especially fancied for a Meydan debut in a G2 here last month, slowly away and never threatening. Not easy to fancy. |
7 |
Hypothetical |
Has plenty of high class Meydan form including a 1.8L second to today’s rival Salute The Soldier in this event in 2021. Bossed from the front when a G3 winner here last month. |
8 |
Kafoo |
Won his first two Meydan starts late last year when his stable was in red-hot form. Finishing strongly in a G2 subsequently but, agitated at the gate, ran dismally last time. |
9 |
Prevent |
Racing prominently he has won twice in handicaps at neighbouring Jebel Ali in recent months. Has won at this longer trip in the UK but ratings are not positive for his chance. |
10 |
Remorse |
Very consistent and reliable and has proven himself very effective over this course and distance. He rises in class which is the biggest concern for his winning chance here. |
11 |
Roman Rosso |
Probably a career best when third in this in 2021 especially as he had to challenge wide. Hopefully will be sharper after two underwhelming performances so far this year. |
12 |
Salute The Soldier |
Not at his best so far this season, though finished slightly lame here last month. But he dominated this G1 last year and must have strong chances if back at near his best. |
13 |
Sanad Libya |
One of a five-strong assault on this G1 from his stable. Not an easy ride but seems to be progressing and his strong finish in a Listed event here last time looks a career best. |

Thegreatcollection |
Finished 6L fourth in this last year and again opposed by the three who finished ahead of him. Usually tries to challenge late so a strong pace would help. |
15 |
Ugurtay |
A proven winner over this trip and beyond at a high level in Turkey. Quite an encouraging fourth on his Meydan debut, though victory in this G1 would be a big surprise. |
