The Stewards have spoken to K H Ting, trainer of MY SUGAR (D206) which is declared to compete in the stated race, regarding that horse not working on the training tracks between 22 January 2022 and 29 January 2022, both dates inclusive. The Stewards have also consulted with Dr. Bronte Forbes, Head of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare and Biosecurity Policy regarding this matter.
Mr. Ting informed the Stewards that following MY SUGAR was displaying mild lameness in the right hind leg on Saturday, 22 January 2022. As a result of this mild lameness issue MY SUGAR was treated which resulted in the horse not being able to be worked on the training tracks during the aforementioned period.
He said that MY SUGAR had resumed track work on Sunday, 30 January 2022 and had galloped on 2 occasions since that day (Sunday, 6 February and Thursday, 10 February 2022). In the latter gallop MY SUGAR was ridden by Jockey Z Purton, who has been declared to ride the horse in tomorrow’s race. The Stewards have also spoken to Z Purton who reported that the horse worked satisfactorily yesterday.
Mr. Ting added that he was satisfied with MY SUGAR’s fitness going into tomorrow’s race given the horse had been able to gallop on 2 occasions since the horse resumed track work.
MY SUGAR passed its routine pre-race veterinary inspection this morning.
