G1 – 1200m – Turf

1

Ainsdale

Loves soft ground and briefly looked like landing a surprise win in a G3 over this course and distance earlier this month, just fading at the end.

2

Art Power

Travelling strongly and then accelerating he easily outspeeded eight opponents in a G3 at The Curragh last month. His four turf wins have come on good ground or slower.

3

Azano

Gained his first win for some time with a brave 1400m Listed race victory – leading and then rallying – this month. But he needs a longer trip and lesser rivals than these.

4

Brando

A nine-times winning veteran. Though beaten on his last 19 starts is still very capable and has run some excellent races in this event, nearly winning it at long odds last year. A closer.

5

Glen Shiel

Led, overtaken then rallied to gain a surprise win in a thriller for this last year, run on soft ground. Needs to raise his game from recent starts, but this has been the main target.

6

Gustavus Weston

Four career wins all at about this trip, though this is his first start outside Ireland. Bossed from the front when an easy G3 winner at The Curragh in August.

7

Happy Power

Weakened late on when ninth in this last year. Mostly competing over further since, he puts in the occasional big run but is not especially consistent.

8

Kinross

A G3 and G2 winner but down to this trip for the first ever time so will want a brutal pace. Could not reach the leaders when fourth in a 1400m Longchamp G1 this month.

9

Creative Force

Stumbled at the start and may have found the ground too quick in a Haydock G1 last time. A 1400m G3 winner at Ascot in June, but the expected fast gallop here will help.

10

Dragon Symbol

Gained a thrilling victory in a Royal Ascot G1 over this trip, only to lose it for interference. Continues to make a big impact in G1 sprints, and could win one soon. Versatile groundwise.

11

Minzaal

A lightly-raced speedster who closed fast to win a G2 at York last year. Only reappeared in 2021 this month but it was a very encouraging second here. A faster start would help.

12

Nando Parrado

A G2 winner over this course and distance at two. Has had some training issues but has also disappointed in 2021 and is very hard to fancy.

13

Rohaan

Eleven runs since January, winning four times including a G3, a G2 and a prestigious Royal Ascot handicap. Slow from the gate but finishing fast in a G1 at The Curragh last time.

14

Thunder Moon

A 1400m G1 winner as a two-year-old but did not develop physically much and has largely been a disappointment this season, barring a close G1 second at Deauville.

15

Highfield Princess

Has a fantastic attitude and has won or been placed in 8 of 9 starts this season. Also loves this track including a Royal Ascot win, but drops to an unfamiliar speedsters trip.

16

Keep Busy

A smart sprinter who has run well at this track but there have been some disappointments this year. Probably not capable of G1 success.

17

Last Empire

Weakened out of contention after leading in a 1400m Longchamp G1 but had previously won a Goodwood G3, and this race has been the aim for some time. Likes soft ground.

18

Happy Romance

Her last four wins have come at this trip. Twice a G3 winner and her best G1 effort came last time – at Haydock – a close fourth, finishing strongly despite an imperfect trip.

19

Vadream

Put herself on track for this by winning a soft-ground G3 over this course and distance this month, quickening past rivals and then bravely responding to pressure.

20

Ventura Diamond

Very effective at this trip but her three wins have come in lesser company than this. Ran well on slow ground here last time and will need slow ground to have any hope here.
