1409m – Turf

Fox Champion |
Led from the gate to win a G2 in Cologne in 2019, but defeated 14 times since. But two good runs out of three this season offer hope of another victory soon. |
2 |
Sunset Breeze |
Tries hard and almost won an all-weather handicap under a big weight last time. Has a tricky handicap mark to contend with but good at this trip and on slow ground. |
3 |
Corvair |
Ran quite a solid fifth in a fast ground course and distance handicap a year ago. Untried on slow ground, but decent efforts lately. |
4 |
Canagat |
Now back in the UK after an unproductive spell in France. Not obviously well handicapped and hard to fancy. |
5 |
Maxi Boy |
Hasn’t lived up to some lofty aspirations but has had some training issues. His handicap mark is gradually sliding after two modest 2021 efforts. |
6 |
Epic Endeavour |
Progressive last year with two of his three career wins have come over this trip, with slow ground preferred. Has a chance if he settles better than he sometimes has. |
7 |
Tintoretto |
Proved himself over this course and distance when winning a handicap here in May. But raised 7lb for that whilst slow ground would be a worry. |
8 |
Magical Wish |
Has lost his last 14 starts but beginning to look nicely handicapped. Only just beaten on soft-ground here in last August. |
9 |
King’s Knight |
A brief forward move at Haydock came to nothing, but, despite racing too keenly, he had almost won over this course and distance in May. |
10 |
Be Prepared |
Slow ground and this trip looked ideal when he won easily at Lingfield, also running a good third on this track previously after being clumsy at the gate. May lead. |
11 |
La Maquina |
A career-best last time in a Newmarket handicap, leading on the wire despite losing many lengths at the start. Hopefully he will handle this slower ground. |
12 |
Queen’s Sargent |
This looks to be his trip and he has won on fast and slow ground. Likes passing horses according to his trainer but has not passed enough of them in his last four starts. |
13 |
Dutch Decoy |
Ran respectably at Lingfield last time considering he was returning from an absence. Two of his three career wins have come at this trip. |
14 |
Golden Force |
His three turf wins have come on a fast surface – it won’t be that here. Returned from a break to run a good second to a horse who has boosted the form since. |
15 |
Hieronymus |
Is 0-12 on a turf surface though more encouraging is that he ran a good fourth on his only previous start here. This trip and slow ground suit, and stable in good form. |
16 |
Desert Doctor |
His eight career wins have come on all-weather surfaces, not ideal for this challenge. He also seems better over 1200m. |
17 |
Enough Already |
His two turf wins were over further and on fast ground, but he has run well over this trip on slower ground. Maybe a bit too high in the handicap now. |
18 |
Internationaldream |
Racing too freely and ran out of gas at the end on his first try over this trip, at Doncaster this month. His stable won this last year. |
19 |
Separate |
Her two previous runs at Goodwood have not been disasters but she never looked like winning. A fast sinking handicap mark could help. |
20 |
Zhui Feng |
Seems best on a fast surface, a problem for today. He has plenty of Goodwood experience and was fourth in this last year off an 8lb higher handicap mark than now. |
