1600m – Turf

1

Emporio

Seven race maiden, runner-up five times and some decent form including respectable fifth in Irish 2000 Guineas. Failed to take opportunity in subsequent maiden race and an unlikely winner.

2

Horoscope

Not far behind Visualisation in handicap against older horses at the Curragh last month. That was on heavy ground. Going faster than good would be a new experience.

3

Akmaam

Won novice easily at Ascot over 1400m on debut last year and ran respectably in G3 in October but well behind in G3 Craven Stakes at Newmarket in April. An unlikely winner.

4

Royal Scimitar

Disappointing in both runs this year, well beaten last of four in conditions race at Goodwood latest. An unlikely winner.

5

Raadobarg

Won three out of three this year, latest over 1634m on heavy going at Haydock. Handicap mark has gone up accordingly which makes this challenging.

6

Legal Attack

Not won in five attempts since winning debut last August but has run some decent races, including at G3 and Listed level. Looks fairly handicapped and a live outsider.

7

Qaader

Narrowly beat Legal Attack over 1600m on fast ground at Goodwood in April. Not run since. Similar chance to Legal Attack.

8

Perotto

Already run 10 times, nine times at 1000m or 1200m. Finished with flourish to win a bunched finish over 1400m at Goodwood 11 days ago. Not ruled out.

9

Mithras

Beat 15 rivals in handicap over 1400m in April and not disgraced when fifth in decent Listed race after racing keenly on soft going. Could be on a good handicap mark.

10

Aerion Power

260,000 guineas yearling. Progressed well to win last three races, most recently overcoming sharp rise in handicap mark. Can probably improve again and a live chance.

11

Star Of Orion

Consistent performer over shorter trips last year. Not run since October and faces a formidable task.

12

Gioia Cieca

All three runs been at all-weather tracks. Won novice race over 1400m in February and respectable effort when fourth in Listed race in March. Should appreciate 1600m but a tough task.

13

Big Narstie

First run on turf when respectable runner-up in decent handicap over 1400m at Ascot last month. Difficult to assess. Not ruled out.

14

Beautiful Bertie

Won twice at all-weather tracks last year. Behind Big Narstie over 1400m at Ascot last month. Difficult to envisage him winning.

15

Liffey River

€380,000 yearling. Has shown a fair level of ability, on latest appearance second in a 1400m handicap at the Curragh. Acts well on soft ground and faster may not suit him.

16

Laelaps

Only won once in nine appearances, placed three times this Spring on soft ground. Needs to improve.

17

Dinoo

Awkward at start and lost ground all three runs. Cannot afford a repeat and has yet to show has the ability for such a competitive handicap.

18

Royal Air Force

A promising start last year but disappointing in two runs this season. Needs a big leap forward.

19

Summa Peto

US bred.  Sharp rise in handicap mark after good winning performances in both outings this year. May well cope with higher mark and has a decent chance.

20

Quintillus

Not run since poor performance at Sandown in April, racing keenly then hanging. Gelded since. An unlikely winner.

21

Grid

Won maiden at Cork last month on fifth attempt. Progressive but sharp rise in handicap mark for that success and bred to appreciate further than 1600m.

22

Siam Fox

Improved to win at sixth attempt, over 1700m at Nottingham this month. Easily dealt with Ilza’Eem. Has to cope with a raised handicap mark.

23

Dubai Honour

Showed reasonable level of ability last year but unraced since October and this is a hard race to start the year.

24

Longlai

Gradually improving, forced strong pace before fading in race won by Perotto at Goodwood 11 days ago. Unlikely winner.

25

Royal Pleasure

Solid record over 1400m. Improving steadily, pulled hard when beaten at Kempton this month. Step up to 1600m should suit and an interesting contender.

26

Ataser

Cheap yearling but won three out of five last year. Not run since September and on pedigree step up from 1400m may not suit. An unlikely winner.

27

Tawleed

Some fair form and soft going against him when well beaten at Goodwood last time. Still difficult to recommend.

28

George Peabody

Won two novice races in nice style this year. Not run since April but looked to have potential and not ruled out.

29

Air To Air

Some fair runs before hitting winning form at Newmarket and Doncaster recently. Versatile ground-wise and stepped up to 1600m convincingly. An interesting candidate.

30

Emperor Spirit

Progressed steadily last year. Did well to finish second in decent handicap at Ripon in April after pulling hard. Not run since. May be well handicapped.

Reserves

31

Forest Falcon

Two satisfactory runs in April but then last on fast ground over 1600m at Newmarket. Gelded since. Difficult to assess.

32

Beau Jardine

After winning two novice races ran a fair race when readily defeated by Isla Kai over 1594m on soft ground at Doncaster. Won on heavy last year. Difficult to recommend.

33

Counsel

Promising return when narrowly beaten in maiden at Newbury in April but then well beaten when odds-on in novice race at Sandown, with the soft ground a possible explanation. A hard task.
