The Stewards have interviewed Mr C S Shum, the trainer of LUCKY FUN, regarding his application to add a tongue tie to the gear to be worn by that horse in the stated race. LUCKY FUN was successful in its previous race start on the All Weather Track on 31 March 2021 when wearing a ring bit only. LUCKY FUN was also successful at its last start on the turf on 10 January 2021 when wearing a hood and ring bit.
Mr Shum explained that after LUCKY FUN’s last start success when the horse was found to have a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea, he added a tongue tie to the horse in its trackwork, and he has been pleased by the horse’s work with this piece of equipment applied. He therefore applied a tongue tie to LUCKY FUN when it barrier trialed at Sha Tin on 21 May 2021 with a view to better establishing how the horse would perform in a race carrying this piece of gear. He said the horse again performed well in the barrier trial and confirmed that Jockey A Badel, who rode the horse, was of the opinion that the horse would benefit by wearing a tongue tie in its future race starts.
Having considered the merits of Mr Shum’s application including the horse’s recent barrier trial, the Stewards have approved for LUCKY FUN to wear a tongue tie in this race.
