G1 – 1600m – Turf

1

Albadri

Pulled too hard but still won a decent little all-weather handicap over this trip in January. But beaten a long way twice since and certainly doesn’t have the profile of a winner of this.

2

Battleground

Has inherited at least some of the brilliance of his dam, Found. A strong traveller who can quicken and is a G2 winner concluding 2020 with a terrific G1 second at Keeneland – having to race wide.

3

Chindit

Made a big impact at two, including a G2 success before struggling on soft ground on his final start. Won a 1400m G3 at Newbury on his return in good but not brilliant style. Must do even better here.

4

Devilwala

Fourth in a G1 at huge odds last season. He does try hard but has only won a single race and surely won’t have enough class and pace to win this Classic.

5

Legion Of
Honour

Having just his fourth career start. Probably needed his 2021 return when second of four in a 1605m Listed all-weather event. Works very well at home, but needs to improve on the track.

6

Lucky Vega

Proved himself top class at two, always travelling smoothly when winning a G1 at The Curragh. That was over 1200m, and there must be worries over this trip, but some hope from his pedigree.

7

Master Of The
Seas

Looks complicated and with a hood for his G3 course and distance run in April. That strategy worked perfectly and when William Buick asked him serious questions he responded stylishly. Major hopes.

8

Mutasaabeq

Didn’t cause excitement when winning on his debut, here last October. But – though only beating three rivals – his front-running win here in April was visually exciting. Supplemented.

9

Mystery Smiles

A fast two-year-old, placed in a G2 and G3 both at 1200m. Showed he had trained on and looked to just about stay this distance when third in a Newmarket G3 in April. An unlikely winner however.

10

Naval Crown

Ratings, jockey bookings and betting predictions place him as inferior to stablemates Master Of The Seas and One Ruler. But his second in Listed company here last time shows that he’s smart.

11

One Ruler

Did little wrong last year, winning a G3 over this course and
distance on slow ground, just outstayed on real muddy ground in a Doncaster G1. Reportedly well tuned up for this return. Chance.

12

Poetic Flare

A G3 Leopardstown winner on his final 2020 start and back in great form on his 2021 return when always looking like the winner of a 1400m Listed race at the same track. May well thrive at 1600m.

13

Thunder Moon

May start favourite after an exciting career at two, surviving a very rough race to win a 1400m G1 at The Curragh on just his second career start. Won’t want soft ground but that looks unlikely.

14

Van Gogh

Faced some hard battles in 2020 and often slower ground than thought ideal, suggesting that his comfortable G1 Saint-Cloud win on heavy ground on his final start was even better than it looked.

15

Wembley

His only 2020 win came in a maiden, but he ran two cracking races in G1 company on his last two starts, second at The Curragh and also second at Newmarket, surging from off the pace each time.
