The Hong Kong Jockey Club came away from the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale with five colts purchased for a combined outlay of AU$2.53 million (approx. HK$15.1 million).
The first of the quintet to pass through the ring was Lot 327, a chestnut colt purchased for AU$550,000 by Australia’s 2018 Champion First & Second Season Sire, Zoustar. A two-time G1 winner on the track, he is the sire of Champion Three-Year-Old Sunlight, a three-time G1 winner and as well, is also the sire of six individual winners already in Hong Kong, including the talented Inner Flame, Dancing Fighter and 2021 HK$12 million Hong Kong Classic Mile contender Healthy Happy.
A strong and athletic son of Written Tycoon – the sire of 11 G1 winners including 2016 Golden Slipper Stakes winner Capitalist – was secured for AUS360,000. The brown colt, sold as Lot 456, is out of Lady Gracious who has produced seven foals to race – all winners. Lady Gracious is a half-sister to Graces Spirit, the dam of two-time Hong Kong winner Beauty Spirit.
The Club paid AU$470,000 for Lot 531, a colt by Exceed And Excel, sire of 2017 and 2018 G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint winner Mr Stunning, as well as the classy Amber Sky – winner of the 2014 G1 Al Quoz Sprint. The striking bay out of Melba Avenue is a half-brother to dual Australian G2 winner Valour Road who is, a seven-time winner from 21 starts.
Lot 542 is an attractive son of Pierro, secured by the Club for AU$450,000. The youngster’s dam is Mischief Night, an unraced half-sister to G1 winner Pierata, top-level placegetter Ashokan and smart juvenile Jet Propulsion. She is the dam of two foals to race, including Our Playboy, a G3 winner in Australia.
A bay colt by I Am Invincible wrapped up the Club’s involvement. The youngster, Lot 810 was secured for AU$700,000, and his dam, Solar Moon is a three-quarter-sister to six-time G1 placegetter Dee Ex Bee. The juvenile’s second dam is Dubai Sunrise, full sister to five-time G1 winner Dubai Millennium, while his sire, I Am Invincible, is the sire of 2020 G2 Premier Bowl winner Wishful Thinker.
