2015m – Turf
1 | Certain Lad | Apparently unfancied but a late rush saw him plunder a valuable Meydan handicap in January. Often gets hot and sweaty before the start, but it is not a negative. |
2 | Tinandali | Formerly Irish-trained when he competed in some hot company, his wins coming on slow ground. An encouraging UK and handicap debut, caught close home at Ayr. |
3 | Desert Icon | First-time cheekpieces and more prominent tactics resulted in a career-best when thrashing four rivals at Newmarket. The 6lb penalty may not prevent another win. |
4 | Caradoc | The faster the ground the better for this four-times winner. Though disappointing on his last start, he has more scope than most of his rivals. |
5 | Sky Defender | A decent operator at around this trip but his current handicap mark makes life difficult and he faded after leading at Doncaster last time. |
6 | Wargrave | Led throughout to win a local G2 on the ice at St Moritz this year, hard form to weigh up. Down the field at Royal Ascot on only start since. |
7 | Johnny Drama | Didn’t make any impact after a poor trip at Royal Ascot on his 2020 return. Probably best on a slow surface, this trip is his minimum so a swift pace wanted. |
8 | Dolphin Vista | A seven-times winner and only just beaten on his only previous Epsom run. However he showed nothing on his first start for this stable. |
9 | You’re Hired | Brave and consistent, with a good win and place record. Last month’s return at Newmarket saw him thrash eight rivals, deserving the 7lb handicap rise. |
10 | Plantadream | His two wins have come on all-weather surfaces, but he wasn’t beaten far in a hot 1600m Royal Ascot handicap last time. |
11 | Sucellus | A late rush saw him win a handicap over this trip at Sandown, first run after a wind operation. Well beaten in two starts in 2020 but can do better. |
12 | Breath Caught | Shaped promisingly when fourth at Newbury last month on his first run of 2020 and for this stable. Versatile groundwise. |
13 | Ironclad | Gelded since his last start, his two wins last summer came on good ground and over a similar trip to this. Well bred, he may well be capable of even better in 2020. |
14 | Mr Scaramanga | From a stable currently struggling for winners, but this guy did lead from gate to wire under top weight over this course and distance last summer. |
15 | Data Protection | Often leads, he loves this track though usually races over a shorter trip than this. Not at his best, though not disgraced either, in two 2020 starts. |
16 | Sherpa Trail | All three runs – winning the first two – have been on the all-weather but no reason on pedigree why he shouldn’t act on turf. Up in trip. |
