Customer services at selected Off-Course Betting Branches and racecourses temporarily suspended on non-race days

20/03/2020 20:14

The Hong Kong Jockey Club (the Club) has opened selected Off-Course Betting Branches (OCBBs) and the two racecourses to provide customer services on non-race days such as cashing-in vouchers or winning tickets and making deposits to betting accounts. Since the first opening on 2 March, the OCBB customer services have been operating smoothly and served more than 320,000 customers. To protect public health and the well-being of our customers and employees, we have implemented stringent public health precautionary measures in the OCBBs and the racecourses, including requirement for temperature screening and medical mask wearing for all of our customers and employees.

The Club has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 development and noted the situation has been increasingly challenging recently as evidenced by a sharp increase of confirmed infected cases following the return of a significant number of Hong Kong residents from overseas in the past week. The Hong Kong SAR Government has implemented compulsory quarantine of all persons arriving at Hong Kong from foreign places since 19 March and medical experts have warned that the situation will be very challenging in the upcoming period.

In view of the above-mentioned situation, the Club would like to request for the understanding of its customers that the provision of these services at selected OCBBs and the racecourses on non-race days has to be temporarily suspended with immediate effect for two weeks until 2 April. We will review the situation nearer the time and will make the relevant announcement before April 2.

Regarding Telebet services that do not involve direct contact with customers, the Club will continue to provide limited services under the current arrangements during race days until further notice. The Club will continue to implement a wide range of precautionary measures at the Telebet centres for the protection of its employees.

The Club will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and make further announcement as appropriate.
