The HK$10 million Hong Kong Classic Mile on Monday, 27 January is the first of three prestigious races that form the once-in-a-lifetime Series, which also features February’s HK$10 million Hong Kong Classic Cup (1800m) and the HK$20 million BMW Hong Kong Derby (2000m) in March.
The updated Rising Stars roll-call ranks Beauty Legacy, Decrypt, More Than This, Super Oasis and Private Secretary among the best of Hong Kong’s emerging talents. In the coming weeks they will attempt to prove their Classic Series credentials.
Golden Sixty, trained by Francis Lui, was already in the list and that four-year-old has thrilled racing fans so far this term. The talented Medaglio d’Oro gelding won his reappearance race at the season opener in September, and has won all three starts since. Golden Sixty appears set for a shot at the Hong Kong Classic Mile, a race that has been won in recent years by elite gallopers such as Able Friend, Lucky Nine, Rapper Dragon and Furore. Meanwhile, Playa Del Puente opened his Hong Kong account in style last October at Happy Valley and Reliable Team, another four-year-old already in the list, had won twice this term.
