G1 – 2321m – Turf
1 |
Klassique |
Loves testing ground as she showed when easily beating seven rivals in a G3 at Haydock in June. Two good starts since including a close third in a Deauville G2. Her trainer worries that she might not be quite good enough to win a G1. |
2 |
Sun Maiden |
Untested on slow ground and also yet to win over this far. The easy winner of a Listed race in June and has run respectably in a G1 and a G3 since. Despite coming from a formidable stable it would surprise if she was quite good enough. |
3 |
Anapurna |
Has loads of stamina as she showed over 2800m at Longchamp when leading throughout in a G1 earlier this month, very soft ground then. Earlier in the year this athletic filly had achieved Classic success when winning the Oaks at Epsom. She’s very brave. |
4 |
Antonia de Vega |
A lightly-raced filly who was very stylish on her only start this season, streaking clear of five rivals in a Listed event (2000m) on soft ground at Newbury in June. Stamina an issue at this unfamiliar trip but further improvement very likely. |
5 |
Delphinia |
From nine starts her only win came in a maiden nearly a year ago. But she has competed at a high level and probably ran a career best when second to Anapurna in a Longchamp G1 (2800m) this month. It would have been closer had she not been hampered by the winner there. |
6 |
Fleeting |
Hasn’t won for over a year but she has competed in six G1’s this season. She came closest on her latest start when only beaten a short neck in a 2000m G1 at Longchamp this month, finishing powerfully. No trip or ground concerns. |
7 |
Nausha |
The ground was fast when she won a G3 at York in May but her trainer thinks she also handles soft conditions. A decent filly but she will need to improve significantly on her last two starts to have a winning chance here. |
8 |
Pink Dogwood |
Only just failed to win the Oaks at Epsom in May, but facts and figures suggest that she hasn’t progressed from that. In G1’s at Longchamp on her last two starts but has failed to deliver a significant finishing kick on either occasion. |
9 |
South Sea Pearl |
Has started at long odds in her last three starts and has only made limited impact. She did win a Listed over 2800m at Leopardstown in July and will probably last this trip but, on ratings, she has plenty to prove and will surely be an outsider again. |
10 |
Sparkle Roll |
On the softest ground she has confronted she perhaps ran a career best – and over this course and distance – when third in a G2 at Royal Ascot in June. However she was no match for stablemate Star Catcher there. |
11 |
Star Catcher |
Frankie Dettori’s mount has been in blistering form, winning her last three starts, the last two at G1 level. It is not easy to lead throughout in top company at Longchamp but that is what she achieved last time. Good ground then but two of her four wins have been on soft. |
12 |
Tarnawa |
Had a break after a poor run in the Oaks at Epsom, bouncing back with a G3 victory at Cork (this distance, slow ground) and a G2 win at The Curragh after when this became her target. Her trainer thinks this is her ideal distance. |
