The Hong Kong Jockey Club purchased three colts out of the recent Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale for a total cost of €315,000 (approximately HK$2.732 million).
The auctioneer’s hammer fell at €165,000 for Lot 467 and it came down in the Club’s favour. That proved to be the two-day sale’s top price.
The loose-moving youngster’s dam is a winning half-sister to Medicine Jack, winner of the G2 Railway Stakes and third in the G1 Phoenix Stakes as a juvenile. It is also the family of G1 winner Wind In Her Hair and her great son Deep Impact, no less.
The Club’s first buy proved to be the opening day’s top priced purchase. Stiff competition for Lot 126 was warded off with a successful bid of €100,000. The athletic colt is by Holy Roman Emperor, the sire of Hong Kong stars Designs On Rome, Rich Tapestry and Beauty Only, as well as this season’s G1 Prix Jacques le Marois hero Romanised.
The youngster is out of a half-sister to the smart Listed winner Mashaahed and the G2 Dante Stakes runner-up Freemantle, from the family of G1 winners Bog Trotter, Lily Of The Valley and Mubtaahij.
Lot 192 was secured for €50,000. The chestnut is by Dandy Man, the sire of G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint winner Peniaphobia. He is from a high-class family replete with Group winners, including his G1-placed third dam Solar Crystal who was a half-sister to the G1 Fillies’ Mile heroine Crystal Music.
