Hong Kong’s 2018/19 Season Finale race meeting will be held this Sunday (14 July) at Sha Tin Racecourse when the awarding of the champion trainer and champion jockey titles, as well as the ever-popular jockeys’ parade, will be among the afternoon’s many highlights.
The Champion Trainer title race between John Size and John Moore is set to go right to the wire. Size has 76 winners and is two ahead of Moore with 74 winners after an exciting night at Happy Valley in midweek, when Moore drew level only for Size to strike back with two winners in the evening’s final two races.
Jockey Zac Purton heads into the season’s final 11 races with 166 winners. He needs five more to break Joao Moreira’s epic record total of 170 set in 2016/17 season.
At the conclusion of racing, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Chief Executive Officer Mr. Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges and trainer Tony Cruz will present this season’s Tony Cruz Award to the season’s leading homegrown rider. The Club’s Steward Mr. Philip N L Chen will present the Champion Jockey Award. Club’s Chairman Dr. Anthony W K Chow will present the Champion Trainer Award, as well as Lifetime Achievement Award to Douglas Whyte. Connections of all Champion Awards winners will appear on stage for a group photo to round off the 2018/19 racing season.
The day will close with the ever-popular Season Finale Parade on the turf track, with jockeys saying farewell and thanks to fans while handing out souvenirs.
During the day, popular racing merchandise will be on sale at up to 70% off at the Season Finale Bazaar, located at 1/F, Grandstand 2 at Sha Tin Racecourse (near Mezza One). Racegoers can also enjoy a $100 discount on any purchase over $300 on two or more items at “Gift at Races” souvenir shop (except consignment items and discounted merchandise).
The Club’s Horse Mascots will make an appearance for photo opportunities with racing fans. A range of special cuisines will also be available at Mezza One to delight the palates of racegoers.
