G1 – 1600m – Turf

Accidental Agent Shock 33-1 winner of this race last year, cost only 8,000 guineas as a yearling. Subsequently disappointed but returned to form when 3rd in G1 Lockinge behind Mustashry and Laurens. Likes Ascot but victory would still be a surprise.
Barney Roy Very talented, boasting a string of high class performances as a three-year-old, when won G1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. Missed last year (unsuccessful spell at stud). Now five, returned to win Listed race at Longchamp last month. Will need to recapture top form.
Beat The Bank Close up 6th in this race last year, behind Accidental Agent and Lord Glitters, after which won two G2 races and another this year. Disappointing joint-favourite in G1 Lockinge, behind several of Tuesday’s rivals. Even best form probably not good enough.
Dream Castle Improved after being gelded last year and won three Group races at Meydan in spring, including a G1. Decent reappearance when close 5th to Zabeel Prince in G1 Prix d’Ispahan but will need to improve again.
Hazapour Has won two G3 races, including on his most recent run at Leopardstown and 5th in last year’s G1 Derby. Trainer Dermot Weld respected (has won 17 races at Royal Ascot) but Hazapour needs a big leap of improvement to be competitive.
Le Brivido Lightly raced five-year-old who finished a close 2nd in the 2017 G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains and won that year’s G3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot. Moved from Andre Fabre to Aidan O’Brien, was trapped behind rivals when 5th to Mustashry in the G1 Lockinge Stakes. Likely to get much closer.
Lord Glitters Has an excellent record at Ascot, including finishing runner-up to Accidental Agent in this race last year. Soft going suits him but beat Mustashry in G3 at York last year on firm going. Worrying that was well beaten in G1 Lockinge last month. A tough task.
Matterhorn All seven wins at all-weather tracks. Much improved this season and finished runner-up on turf in G2 race at Chester and G3 at Sandown. Needs another big burst of improvement to be involved in finish.
Mustashry Trainer Sir Michael Stoute, who has won this race three times, is a master at improving older horses and this six-year-old produced a career best to win the G1 Lockinge Stakes comfortably last month, with several of today’s rivals behind. Has an obvious chance.
Mythical Magic Won a G2 at Meydan in February but well beaten on return in G1 Lockinge and doesn’t look good enough.
Olmedo His first run outside France, where trained by Jean-Claude Rouget to win last year’s G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains. Subsequently disappointing and twice beaten in lesser races at Saint-Cloud this year. Will need a marked revival.
Romanised Won last year’s Irish 2000 Guineas before well beaten in G1 St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. Recaptured form when 4th in G1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury, behind Mustashry, Laurens and Accidental Agent. Needs to improve.
Sharja Bridge Overall form isn’t good enough. Last October won a big handicap at Ascot. This year’s best run when 2nd to Beat The Bank in a G2 race at Sandown, then well behind in G1 Lockinge Stakes.
Stormy Antarctic Interesting outsider. The six-year-old’s career includes four placed finishes in G1 events in France, Germany and Canada. This year won on both appearances, in G3 and G2 races in Germany and Italy. Probably not good enough.
Laurens Tremendous filly, has won five G1 races and rarely run a bad race. Seasonal reappearance when 2nd to Mustashry in G1 Lockinge Stakes. Likely to improve for the run and be involved.
One Master Blossomed late last year when winning G1 Prix de la Foret at Longchamp and close 5th in G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Churchill Downs. Sole run this year comfortably held in G2 at The Curragh. Unlikely to spring another surprise.
