G1 – 1000m – Turf

1 Battaash

The fastest horse in the world, with great acceleration, stormed to victory in recent G2 Temple Stakes and will win if in same form. Calmer than usual that day – can sweat up and has his off days. Went off too fast when beaten in race last year.

2 Blue Point

Top class and consistent sprinter – in first three in 15 of 18 runs, winning nine times. Beat Battaash when winning this race last year. Won all three races at Meydan this year, including G1 Al Quoz Sprint. Likes Ascot and expected to be involved.

3 Enzo’s Lad

Sporting New Zealand challenger has career record of seven wins from 29 starts. Won G1 in New Zealand in January but is not good enough for this.

4 Equilateral

Stablemate of Battaash is improving and best run yet when just beaten by Mabs Cross in G3 Palace House Stakes. Overall form not good enough and needs further improvement.

5 Imprimis

USA raider showing best form this year and just beat odds-on fellow raider Bound For Nowhere in G2 at Keeneland in April. Will need to improve again.

6 Judicial

A great servant to Julie Camacho’s small stable, with 11 wins to seven-year-old’s name including a G3 race last year but not good enough for this.

7 Houtzen

Four Australian trained horses have won this race since 2003 but Houtzen doesn’t look good enough to make it five. The four-year-old has never won above G3 level and been beaten in all five G1 races she has contested.

8 Mabs Cross

A tremendous, top class mare who cost only £3,000 as a yearling. Third in this race last year before winning the G1 Prix de l’Abbaye, with Battaash behind. Respectable third in G2 Temple Stakes and Ascot’s stiffer finish will suit her. Expect her to stay on strongly.

9 Sergei Prokofiev

Three-year-old well thought of by trainer Aidan O’Brien. The best of his entries. Promising run when came from last to fourth behind Mabs Cross in G3 Palace House Stakes last month. Will doubtless improve but needs to.

10 Soldier’s Call

A fascinating three-year-old contender who showed top class form as a two-year-old, winning the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot then finishing a fine third in the G1 Prix de l’Abbaye. Respectable close third on return when giving weight in Listed race at York last month. Interesting.

11 Fairyland

Never run over 1000m. Top class juvenile last year when all four wins over 1200m, including G1 Cheveley Park Stakes. Stepped up to 1600m this year. Ran well when fifth in 1000 Guineas, less well and outstayed in Irish 1000 Guineas.

12 Signora Cabello

Top class filly as two-year-old winning G2 Queen Mary Stakes at and G2 Prix Robert Papin. Only fair in two runs this season but should appreciate drop back to 1000m. Tough task.
