The Licensing Committee has resolved to grant a Visiting Jockey’s licence to Brazilian Jockey Vagner Borges from 1 July 2019 to 14 July 2019, both dates inclusive. This is to assist connections with their choice of jockeys for the final 5 race meetings of the current racing season.
Vagner Borges, 26 years of age, commenced riding in the 2009/2010 racing season as an Apprentice Jockey based at Gavea Racecourse in Rio de Janeiro. He quickly displayed exceptional riding talent and during the 2011/2012 racing season was able to take out the Jockeys’ Championship in just his 3rd season with a career-high 244 wins at a winning rate of 20.75%. He has since claimed the Jockey’s title on a further 3 occasions, in the 2013/2014 racing season with 212 wins (22.25%), the 2014/2015 racing season with 218 wins (20.94%) and in the 2017/2018 racing season with 186 wins (20.24%). In all, he has 1606 career wins to his credit with his 10 wins at Group 1 level being complemented by 18 Group 2 wins and 23 Group 3 victories. Jockey Borges is a natural lightweight and is able to ride comfortably at 113 lbs.
