Jockey Silvestre de Sousa - Injury Update

07/03/2019 16:02

Following his ride on MR DARTHVEGAR in Race 4 at last night’s Happy Valley race meeting, Jockey Silvestre de Sousa was stood down by the Club’s Chief Medical Officer after experiencing lower back pain following which he was transported to hospital for further medical assessment and treatment.

The Chief Medical Officer has today advised the Stewards that MRI tests have revealed soft tissue damage to the lower back for which Jockey de Sousa is now being treated.  The Chief Medical Officer also advised that, depending on Jockey de Sousa’s response to this ongoing treatment, the injury may resolve in sufficient time for him to fulfil his riding engagements at the Sha Tin race meeting on Sunday, 10 March 2019.   A further release will be issued at the appropriate time in relation to Jockey de Sousa’s fitness to be able to resume riding.
