1200m – Dirt

Basileus Lion He had promising start and notched a 2nd in an open-class 1200m race at Nakayama in 4th career start. Failed to win at this level since. Moved to dirt a year ago and won over 1200m dirt at Niigata. Returned last out in July following 7-month layoff, leg problems and change of stable. Ran 15th of 16. Likely needs more time.
Beyond the All Given 5 1/2 months off last year for weak hindquarters. Has done poorly since return in December. Returns after 4 months off and is being run on dirt for only 2nd time in career 25 starts. Only previous result on dirt was a 12th-place finish over 1400m. Yutaka Take in saddle for first time. Could surprise.
Condor Hideo The six-year-old has yet to win in 8 starts at this level. Posted best a 6th in last 5 starts. Not a contender.
Daiwa Scamp After poor results from spring of 2017, he is regaining form with two 2nds and a 3rd in 5 starts this year. Despite being slow out of gate, missed win by a nose last out 17 September over 1200m dirt. Excellent late speed. Looks to have maintained condition.
Gingo Posted first win in 13 starts from January 2017 last out on 16 September over Nakayama 1200m. Moving up in level for first time since May 2017. Looks good in work, but likely outclassed.
Grass Leo He has 2 wins in 7 starts. Moving up in class for first time after win 15 July over 1000m at Hakodate. Broke maiden over Nakayama 1200m. Both wins posted on slower track.
Koyu Hokuto He is 2 for 12 after posting win last out 15 September over Nakayama 1200m. Moving up to this class for first time. Has decent speed and can handle softer ground. Apprentice Nanako Fujita in saddle allows for weight of 117lb, same carried for last win.
Laurel Jack Has posted 9-15-7-8 since moving up to this level from October 2017. Has gotten ample work, but likely outclassed.
Mikki Officer Has only 2 starts at this level. Both ended in double-digit finishes, last December and last out in April. Will carry only 117lb with apprentice aboard and is looking good, but not promising.
Overwrite 3-year-old colt jumped to the open class after winning at the level below this race in December last year. Posted 6-5-7 before dropping back to this level for a 7th-place finish last out at 1200m on 29 July despite missing break. Has won at Nakayama over this distance under jockey Hiroyuki Uchida. Good speed. Chance.
Rapid Rise Five-year-old mare is 12-12-12 for last 3 starts, all at this level. Stumbled at break last out and raced from behind. Has two 3rds at this level, both at Nakayama over 1200m. Racing for first time in over 2 months. Looking good in work. Has speed if regains condition.
Sol Presa After slump through most of 2017, this 6-year-old has posted three 3rds from 6 starts this year, including a 3rd last out with same conditions. Looks in good shape. Can handle any going. Odds likely long. Worth a wager.
Sunny Dancer Three-year-old is 2 for 4 and coming off a win over Nakayama 1200m on sloppy ground. Moving up in class for first time. Won second start with Christophe Lemaire aboard. Runs on or close to pace.
Traveling He has 2 wins and one 2nd and 3rd each from 6 starts, all under Christophe Lemaire. Moving up to level for first time after winning over 1000m at Sapporo. First time at Nakayama. Won debut at this distance. Good speed. Will have new jockey Yusuke Fujioka.
Usagino Dance 3-year-old colt moving up to this level for first time following win last out on 21 July. Has two seconds and one win at this distance at Nakayama. Looks good in work. Can run from any position. Decent speed.
Yasashisa Four-year-old filly has three wins and four 2nds in 15 starts, including a win and a 2nd at this level. Dropped down to this class last out in July and turned in 15th-place finish returning to track after 3-month layoff. Has excellent speed and good chance if in shape on raceday. Partnered with Joao Moreira.
