The Season Opening race meeting will be held at Sha Tin Racecourse on Sunday, 2 September when mega prizes totalling HK$50 million will be on offer to mark the start of the new term. Spectacular on-course activities, a game with prizes and a new range of merchandise will also be on offer. Each racegoer will receive a free 2018/19 Racing Calendar* as a door gift upon admission.

$50 million mega prize to celebrate the start of season

To celebrate the new racing season, the Triple Trio and the Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool will be topped up with jackpots for both the season’s opening day meeting and first night meeting. Together with the jackpots carried forward to two other pools, customers will have a chance to win up to $50 million dollars.

A total of $30 million in prize money will be on offer for the season’s opening day meeting on Sunday, 2 September. It includes an estimated payout of $18 million for the Triple Trio, should there be only one single $10 winning unit, and a $1 million jackpot for the last race of Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool. In addition, jackpots will be carried forward to the 1st Double Trio and Six Win Bonus, bumping up the estimated payouts of the two pools to $7 million and $4 million, respectively, for a single $10 winning unit. 

For the season’s first night meeting on Wednesday, 5 September, up to $20 million in total prize money will be up for grabs. The prizes include an estimated dividend of $18 million in the Triple Trio for a single $10 winning unit and a $2 million jackpot for the Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool. The Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool jackpot will be allocated to the last leg of the Triple Trio and the last race, with each race carrying a jackpot of $1 million.

Gong-striking opening ceremony

The opening ceremony will take place in the Parade Ring ahead of the races. It will start with the traditional eye-dotting of the ceremonial lions, followed by the gong-striking ceremony performed by the officiating guest. All jockeys will be in attendance to wish fans the very best for the coming season.

Gong art exhibition

A series of gong sculptures created by the Club’s farriers will be exhibited at Sha Tin Racecourse. In addition, gong formation sets representing good wishes of luck will be set up on the day. Fans can strike the lucky gongs at Sha Tin Racecourse for an auspicious start to the new season.

Snap IG moments to win prizes

Popular attractions such as the Silent Witness horse statue, the iconic Parade Ring and this year’s newly-added Gong art exhibition offer good photo taking opportunities to racegoers. Attendees can upload their photos of the Season Opening occasion to Instagram with the hashtag #SeasonOpening for a chance to take home fabulous prizes. The top 50 nominated for “Best Photo” will each be awarded a gong-themed horse plush. Two winners of “Best Photo” will win a iPhone X, 256GB valued at HK$9,880 each.

New range of merchandise available for sale

A new range of products, including the gong-themed Start of Season Plush and the “Ric Tse Legography x Hong Kong Racecourse” Series, are available for purchase at both racecourses at the Season Opening meeting, with prices from $58 and up.  A further press release will be issued with more information about new merchandise.

Refreshing gourmet dishes for new start

A variety of refreshing dishes will be available at Mezza One, the gourmet food plaza at Sha Tin Racecourse.

There will be a 10-race card on Sunday, 2 September. The day’s feature race is the HKSAR Chief Executive’s Cup, a Class 1 handicap over 1200m. Admission to the racecourses will start at 11am and the first race will be run at Sha Tin at 1pm.

Free Shuttle Bus to Happy Valley Racecourse

On the day, racegoers wishing to watch the exciting races via the big screen at Happy Valley Racecourse can take advantage of a free shuttle bus service to Happy Valley from 10:30am to 12:20pm. The boarding point is Exit D, Kowloon Tong MTR station.

Senior Zone at Farrier on 2 offers comfortable seats at Happy Valley Racecourse. Seats for the free shuttle buses and at Senior Zone are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
