Jockey Club celebrates HKSAR’s 21st birthday by staging Hong Kong Reunification Raceday

The Hong Kong Jockey Club celebrated the 21st birthday of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region by staging the Hong Kong Reunification Raceday today (1 July) at Sha Tin Racecourse. In addition to two feature races – The Hong Kong Reunification Cup and Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup – a range of entertainment was offered. Racegoers also received “Celebrating the Anniversary of Reunification” souvenir fans as a complimentary gift.

The Hong Kong Reunification Cup was run as Race 7. Club Chairman Dr Simon S O Ip, together with Deputy Director of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R. Yang Jian, and Deputy Commissioner of Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Yang Yirui presented the trophies to the winning owner, trainer and jockey.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup, showcases the fruitful cooperation and exchange in sports and culture between Guangdong and Hong Kong, was run as Race 8. Secretary for Food and Health Professor Sophia Chan Siu-chee, and Vice Director-General, Sports Bureau of Guangdong Province, Xu Jianping presented the trophies to the winning owner, trainer and jockey.

The Hong Kong Reunification Cup was won by the Tony Cruz-trained California Fortune, ridden by Neil Callan while the Benno Yung-trained Cruising ridden by Umberto Rispoli took the Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup.
