G1 – 1600m – Turf
Teppal | A big scopey filly with a good action, she won both her starts last season – latterly when accelerating clear of 12 rivals in a 1400m novices’ event on the Kempton all-weather in September. Now takes a big step up in class and some pedigree concerns at this trip. |
Mission Impassible | Her last two 2017 starts were over this distance, winning a Listed contest and finishing a close third in a Chantilly G1. However she made a moderate return to action in a G3 over this course and distance last month, only sixth of eight when never a serious factor. |
Moisson Precoce | Didn’t manage a two-year-old win but did score on her 2018 debut when winning a minor event over 1500m at Deauville. Despite rearing up at the start she ran a respectable fourth – only beaten 1.8L – in a G3 trial for this at Deauville last month. |
Wind Chimes | Won both starts last season – both at Chantilly – latterly drawing clear in a 1400m Listed event on testing ground. A disappointing favourite when 3L fifth in a G3 over this course and distance last month, though apparently she was short of work after training setbacks. |
Red Line | A smart and progressive filly who has won four of her seven starts. Stepped up to this distance for her 2018 return . Asserted in the closing stages to beat eight rivals in a 1600m Listed event at Toulouse last month. Proven on good and soft ground. |
Ellthea | Had a busy first season from the time of her first race last May, but she seemed to thrive on racing and she won a 1400m Naas G3 on soft ground last September. Excuses for a few defeats when reportedly ‘in season’ and her pedigree suggests that she will stay 1600m. |
Musis Amica | Has won both her starts – on slow and heavy ground respectively – and, despite reportedly being in need of her 2018, debut she picked up impressively without her rider needing to resort to the whip when defeating seven rivals in a G3 over this course and distance last month. A major contender. |
Zonza | Won her first three starts – including a G3 – all at sprint distances. She ran respectably in two G1’s later last year and gave the impression that she would have a rewarding 2018 when a close second – having been ridden prominently – in a 1400m G3 at Deauville last month. |
Could It Be Love | Improved markedly on her three 2017 starts – all at sprint distances – when leading from the start and obliterating her 12 rivals in a 1400m maiden on the Dundalk all-weather last month. This is a very different challenge but from the mighty O’Brien stable she can’t be ignored. |
Coeur de Beaute | Progressive over shorter last year concluding with a 1200m Listed race win on testing ground. Covered up off the pace she finished powerfully when winning a 1400m trial for this at Deauville last month. She’s got a lot of speed and now she must prove stamina also. |
Sea Prose | A nice winner on her second and final start last season and then a solid second to Musis Amica in a G3 over this course and distance last month, moving smoothly to the front 300m out but collared late on. Her trainer says she shows her best form on heavy ground. |
Capla Temptress | Has had an interesting career already moving from Newmarket to the USA and back again. In that time she won twice in the UK and also a G1 – when coming from the back on a fast turf surface – over 1600m at Woodbine last September. She handles slower ground also. |
Polydream | An impressive winner on her first two starts – including a 1400m G3 – last season and then made favourite for a 1600m G1 at Chantilly. She ran a good second but her trainer thinks she would have won but for being hurt during that race. He is worried she hasn’t had a 2018 prep run before this task. |
Barkaa | Won two of her three two-year-old starts – on all-weather surfaces – and was even better on her 2018 return when making rapid headway to lead 200m out and easily win a G3 over 1800m on heavy ground here. She is clearly very smart. |
