The Hong Kong Jockey Club purchased seven attractive colts at New Zealand Bloodstock’s recent Karaka Book 1 yearling sale for a total of NZ$2.06 million (approximately HK$11.42 million).
A bay Fastnet Rock colt was the first of the Club’s buys to fall under the hammer, the price being NZ$400,000. Lot 26 is out of a winning sprinter from a good black type family that has produced the Hong Kong winners Happy Surveys and the smart Keen Venture.
Later in the 28 January session, Lot 80 was secured for NZ$240,000. The well-related Savabeel colt is a half-brother to the mile winner Richie McHorse, being out of the G1 New Zealand Oaks heroine Boundless.
Day two, 29 January, saw the Club pay NZ$500,000 for Lot 190, another Savabeel. The athletic bay is out of the unraced Pins mare Eudora, a full-sister to the G2 winner Legless Veuve and the G3 scorer Tootsie.
The Club also purchased Lot 212 out of the second session for NZ$370,000. The Per Incanto youngster is the second foal out of the top class Stravinsky mare Fleur Du Lune, winner of the G1 ARC Railway Stakes.
The third session brought Lot 376 to the Club’s attention and the Showcasing colt was secured for NZ$200,000. The chestnut is a full-brother to ARC Karaka Million winner Hardline, one of seven winning siblings. Later in the day, the Club bought Lot 490 for NZ$150,000, a handsome Dalghar half-brother to the G3 winner Spirit Bird.
Lot 567 wrapped up the Club’s Karaka Book 1 interest. The NZ$200,000 buy is a Tavistock colt out of a half-sister to G1-winning New Zealand Horse of the Year Mufhasa.
