Trade was hot and competition intense at the recent Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and the Hong Kong Jockey Club was on hand to purchase eight well-connected youngsters for a total of 1.99 million guineas (approximately HK$21.89 million).

The Club struck early in the elite Book 1 portion with a successful bid of 450,000 guineas for Lot 12, an athletic Kodiac colt from the family of Hong Kong champion Industrialist. The bay is out of Inyordreams, a speedy Listed-winning daughter of Wunders Dream. The latter won two of Britain’s sharpest 1000m tests, the G2 Flying Childers Stakes and the G3 Molecomb Stakes.

Lot 61 is a 200,000 guineas half-brother to the G3 winner Be My Gal. His dam is a Listed-placed daughter of the sharp and prolific G3-winning sprinter Palacegate Episode, from the family of G1 speedster Dutch Art.

Lot 166, a 220,000 guineas purchase is by Exceed And Excel out of the high-class G3 winner Regal Realm, a granddaughter of G1 Cheveley Park Stakes (1200m) heroine Regal Rose.

The Club rounded out its Book 1 buys with Lot 487, a 270,000 guineas Dark Angel colt from an Aga Khan Studs line that has produced, in recent times, the English and Irish Derby winner Harzand and fellow G1 winner Seal Of Approval.

Book 2 yielded four more exciting prospects. The hammer fell at 300,000 guineas for Lot 722, an attractive Sea The Stars colt out of a winning three-parts sister to the G1-scorers Zieten and Blue Duster.

Lot 535, from the first crop of champion sprinter Slade Power, traces back to the Wildenstein family’s champions Arcangues and Aquarelliste, while Lot 516 is a good-moving Acclamation colt out of a winning half-sister to G2 Temple Stakes winner Priceless. Lot 962, an athletic Camacho colt, has the G1 Oaks winner Lady Carla as his third dam.
