Let us entertain your Oktoberfest obsession at the Happy Valley

03/10/2017 12:27

Oktoberfest is back at the Beer Garden and all across Happy Valley racecourse throughout the month of October. The four-week party commences Thursday, 5 October followed by three consecutive Wednesdays (11/10, 18/10 and 25/10) to round out the month. The Happy Wednesday Oktoberfest is very different to other Oktoberfests in town – it brings together fashionable people, beer, traditional Bavarian music, plenty of great German delicacies and thrilling action on the race track.

Opening Party on Thursday 5 October
The Oktoberfest party will begin with the official pouring of the first stein of beer by Mr. Karsten Tietz, Deputy Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s CEO Mr. Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges.  The ever-popular oompah band Notenhobler from Germany will be on hand to get the party going on 5 and 11 October, while Carnivale Band will be playing on the final two nights.

Another time-honoured Oktoberfest tradition is the playing of beer-related games. Cheerful games will be testfans’ skills and add to the fun.

  • Beer Pong Challenge – test your concentration by throwing three ping pong balls into the plastic cups as fast as possible
  • Boxing Arcade – test your arm strength by punching the kiosk as hard as you can
  • Stein Hoisting Challenge– test your strength and durability by holding one litre of beer with straight arms

Authentic German beer and gourmet food

As ever, one of the highlights of the Happy Valley Oktoberfest will be authentic German beer and food – and lots of it. More than 14 different beer brands will be on tap to tempt your tastebuds, all served ice-cool and foaming – just as they should be. A great selection of traditional fare will also be offered at the Beer Garden take-away counters.
