Great summer outdoor entertainment and family fun at the HKJC Pre-Season Carnival

The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Pre-Season Carnival, an ever-popular outdoor event for families each summer, will be held this year on Saturday, 26 August at Sha Tin Racecourse. The Carnival will be extended from the Racecourse Grandstand to Penfold Park this year to add even more family fun. Ticket combos at HK$60 each will be available for sale from Tuesday, 15 August at 40 designated Off-Course Betting Branches, while stocks last.

Among the headline attractions at the annual carnival this year include grand performances from Yao Jue Music Academy and the Hong Kong String Orchestra (Photo 1), a toy upcycling workshop offered by YMCA of Hong Kong (Photo 2 ), unicycling performances by UAHK, and a display, exhibition and mini-game booth with freebies from TINY (Photo 3 ).

Participants can also join in the “Share Your Best Moment!” photo competition. The person who uploads the best photo or video on Instagram or Facebook, hashtag with #PreSeasonCarnival and #ShaTinRacecourse, will have chance to get a CASIO FR100L camera (worth HK$3,480).

Other highlights for horse lovers include:

  • Pony Rides* and Photo Opportunities with Shetland Ponies (Photo 4) – A unique chance for families to have close contact with horses while learning how to care for and bond with them.
  • Jockeys’ Sprint (Photo 5,6 ) – The annual Jockeys’ Sprint will feature the unforgettable sight of jockeys racing barefoot across the Sha Tin turf.  The onsite “Guess the Winner” contest offers prizes valued at HK$10,000 in total.
  • Grass Trials – A fully fledged pre-season grass trial session will offer visitors a sneak preview of the racing action ahead of the new season’s opening day.

The Pre-Season Carnival, to be staged from 11am to 7:30 p.m on 26 August, is open to members of the public for all ages. Ticket combos will go on sale from Tuesday, 15 August at 40 designated Off-Course Betting Branches, while stocks last. Each ticket combo costs HK$60 and includes an admission ticket (HK$10), a food and beverage cash coupon (HK$10), four game coupons (HK$40) and a “Gift at Races” merchandise discount coupon. There is no admission charge for children aged three or younger.

Visitors can access Sha Tin Racecourse on foot from Exit C, Fo Tan Station (eight minutes). Complimentary shuttle buses will run between Pai Tau Street, Sha Tin and Sha Tin Racecourse from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at 15-minute intervals. The boarding point at the station is next to the Pai Tau Village Leisure and Cultural Services Headquarters.

*Carnival Ticket Combos holders wishing to enjoy a Pony Ride can fill in the online registration form (www.hkjc.com/pony) to enter a lucky draw. Successful applicants then have the chance to purchase a Pony Ride ticket at HK$50 each (Trade Promotion Competition License Number: 049201).
