Hong Kong International Sale set for 16 March

12/02/2018 14:59

The Hong Kong International Sale (HKIS) is set for Friday, 16 March, one of two sales to be hosted in both 2018 and 2019, and is expected to feature 28 lots purchased and pre-trained by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Amongst the scheduled lots available to eligible permit-holders is an Irish-bred full-brother to multiple Group 1-winning sprinter Slade Power (Dutch Art ex Girl Power) as well as a gelded son of Holy Roman Emperor (ex Ysoldina) which is a half-brother to 2017 Epsom Derby winner Wings Of Eagles.

The breeze-ups for HKIS (March) will be conducted on Saturday, 10 March while sales catalogues will be posted to eligible purchasers on 13 February and available on the Club’s website the same day.

In order to be eligible to retain a HKIS (March) purchase to race in Hong Kong, a bidder must hold a valid import permit for a Privately Purchased horse (PP) or Privately Purchased Griffin (PPG), hold a valid Normal or Special Replacement Permit, or be listed on the Reserve and Tender/Auction List (for PP or PPG) as published on 6 June 2017.

The HKIS (June), scheduled Friday, 15 June, will offer approximately 20 additional lots. Further details of those eligible to bid and the lots available will be revealed in early May.

Mr Anthony Kelly, Executive Director, Racing Business and Operations said: “Horse ownership in Hong Kong is more popular than ever, with the average waiting period for a permit at approximately four years. With the opening of the Conghua Training Centre in August, we have the opportunity to expand the horse population and are pleased to offer two events from which our owners can source horses purchased and pre-trained by the Club.”

Both HKIS (March) and HKIS (June) will be held in the parade ring at Sha Tin Racecourse in an evening format, preceded by a cocktail reception. “We have received incredibly positive feedback from our owners and trainers following a shift to the evening format and look forward to welcoming them to these elegant events.”
