The Chinese New Year Raceday has always been one of Hong Kong’s most popular horseracing events, bringing families and friends together in festive celebration. With the Year of the Dog just around the corner, the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, hosted a press conference today (15 January), together with Executive Director of Racing Business and Operations, Anthony Kelly, and Executive Director of Customer and Marketing, Richard Cheung, to announce spectacular on-course activities at Sha Tin Racecourse on Sunday, 18 February, the third day of the Chinese New Year.

Trainer Danny Shum, apprentice jockeys Matthew Poon and Dylan Mo, veteran Hong Kong singers Adam Cheng and Liza Wang, and cross-media artist Simon Ma also attended the press conference today.

HK$80 million mega prize to celebrate Chinese New Year
A total of HK$80 million will be on offer to celebrate the Year of the Dog. An estimated HK$18 million will await the holder of a single HK$10 winning unit for the Triple Trio at the race meeting on the third day of the Chinese New Year (18 February), as the prize pool will be topped up from the Triple Trio Jackpot Reserve. The Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool Jackpot will also be topped up with $2 million.

Meanwhile, the estimated First Division Prize Fund for the Mark Six Chinese New Year Snowball Draw, which will be held on the fifth day of Chinese New Year (20 February), may reach HK$60 million. Tickets for the Snowball Draw will start selling on Tuesday 13 February.

Free door gift and instant win card to win a 24K gold foil ornament
All racegoers will receive a lucky ball pen and an instant win card# upon admission to the racecourse (until the start of Race 6, while stocks last), offering a chance to win a 24K gold foil ornament. There are 1,000 prizes to be won, with a total value of HK$378,000.

Celebrities to star in spectacular opening show
The day will start with a grand opening variety show at 11:00am at Sha Tin Racecourse, led by lion dancing to summon good fortune. Veteran Hong Kong singers Adam Cheng and Liza Wang will perform their all-time favourites and popular CNY tunes. Feng shui master Mak Ling Ling will share her lucky tips, while jockeys will wish fans good fortune and prosperity for the Chinese New Year.

Highlight races of the CNY Raceday
The highlight on the race track will be the Hong Kong Classic Cup (second leg of the 4-Y-O Classic Series) and the Chinese New Year Cup. There will be 11 races on the day, with the first starting at 12:30pm. Sha Tin Racecourse will open at 10:30am for admission.

Boost your luck at the Blossom Avenuefortune display
Come and visit the flowery Blossom Avenue at the Public Forecourt and lucky windmills at racecourse entrances to bring blessings for a prosperous year. Feng shui master Mak Ling Ling will also share her lucky tips to racegoers during designated time slots at the Tipster Forum.

Unique range of CNY-themed collectibles and festive menu to start the year
A new range of CNY-themed merchandise, including "Ric Tse Legography x Hong Kong Racecourse" Series and traditional Chinese lucky "Hulu" Series, are available at the Gift at Races souvenir shops. Red Packets Series will be available starting from 21 January. A special menu of Chinese New Year dishes will be offered at Mezza One in the Public Enclosure. A further release will be issued with more information about new merchandise and a festive menu.
Free admission for tourists
Visitors to Hong Kong will be able to enter the Public Enclosure free of charge upon showing a valid travel document.
